GRANDMOTHERS HEALING HAKA SEMINAR

OJasmaania1Sept 20-24, 2017
At Riverplains Farm

Awaken Your Personal Power with
The Grandmothers Healing Haka Seminar

The Grandmothers Healing Haka holds a special place in the hearts of those who attend every year. We are often asked: “What happens at Haka?” What better way to offer insight than to share some words straight from the Whanau (family):⠀

“The biggest thing for me about the Haka is connecting to my body. Haka makes me feel stronger, more grounded, and more present. It feels like home base and I always feel like, if I can make it to Haka, I’ll be set for the rest of the year. In the Haka, I’ve found a sense of family that I’ve never gotten from my traditional family. At the Haka, you’re invited to be just who you are. You’re appreciated, honored, and accepted. You’re not asked to be different from who or where you are. It doesn’t matter if you screw up the moves or look stupid. Learning to treat myself the way Ojasvin, Waimaania, Sara, and the Haka family treat me…that’s my compass.”⠀

Join us at Riverplains Farms for another amazing retreat led by world-renowned healers and teachers! During the seminar, you are guided, step-by-step, through the Grandmothers Healing Haka. You learn not only the physical movements and the words, but also the meaning and intent behind each facet of the dance. You walk away with tools for personal healing, a refreshed sense of community, and a deep understanding of the power of the ceremonial mind.

HAKA is a traditional power dance—known for strong vocal sounds and dynamic body movements—practiced by the Maori in Aotearoa (New Zealand). GRANDMOTHERS HEALING HAKA is a haka that expresses the wisdom and love from the tradition of the Maori and Waitaha grandmothers.

The GRANDMOTHERS HEALING HAKA SEMINAR—taught by Ojasvin Kingi Davis and Waimaania Iris Hauserman Davis—is a 4-day retreat that combines the power of the Grandmothers Healing Haka with dance, body movement exercises, sacred geometry, songs, meditation, and ceremony. Haka is suitable for men and women of all ages.

Are you familiar with the New Zealand national union rugby team—commonly known as the All Blacks—and the traditional Maori Ka Mate Haka they perform before their matches? This ceremony is a warrior dance that aims to establish territory, intimidate the enemy, and energize the team preparing for battle.

The Grandmothers Healing Haka—created by Ojasvin Kingi Davis and his grandmother Mere Tewaka Tana—is a matrilineal ceremony and dance that is meant to energize our spiritual light and to help us connect to our own internal flame. The dance combines movement, prayer, and language—and supports our spiritual transformation.

The Grandmothers Healing Haka comes to Gypsy Hands and East Tennessee beginning on Wednesday, September 14, with an opening ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. and open to the public. The Haka Seminar will run for four days, from Thursday, September 15 through Sunday, September 20. The Seminar ends Sunday, September 20, with a special closing ceremony—also open to the public.

The haka seminar, opening ceremony, and closing ceremony will now be hosted at Riverplains Farms—a 600-acre multi-generation farm located on the Holston River in Strawberry Plains.

We will have a large tent to meet under, sweet tea, unsweet tea, a river to jump in (bring your bathing suit), and plenty of ice! Lunch and dinner will be catered by Good Golly Tamale.

As the sun begins to set, you may also find yourself wanting to stay the night! There will be space for camping, if you’d like—or you can simply join us during the seminar hours. We’d love to see you at this fun and transformative event!

Led by Ojasvin and his wife, Waimaania Hauserman Davis, the week includes songs, dance, and meditation—and powerful transformation for all who participate. Find more information at grandmothershealinghaka.com.

Haka is a traditional and dynamic power dance from the Maori of Aotearoa, New Zealand. It connects you to your roots and your identity. Healing Haka is a haka for healing and transformation. It is physically demanding and requires a lot of your own individual perseverance and personal will power, in order to receive great benefits. However we encourage people to be aware of their own limitations as we wish to have lots of fun and joy. Pou Uira: this haka is a group dance, that is generated by the fusion of sacred body geometry, rhythm and holy mantric language with pure intent that carries a message out into the world. It activates our presence of here and now. Ojasvin Kingi Davis (Maori) and Iris Hausermann Davis of Grandmothers Healing Haka will be hosting.
